To have shiny, well-groomed hair, that is the dream of every woman. Besides the cut, the right care is of course crucial. Wrong styling, frequent coloring or care products that are not adapted to the hair ensure that the hair becomes brittle over time. But what is proper hair care?

Tip 1: Choose the right care

If our body is sufficiently supplied with all vitamins and nutrients, you can also see this in the hair. Hair loss, on the other hand, is often a sign of poor blood circulation or poor hormone or glandular activity. Hair is basically divided into the following categories: Normal hair, quick greasy hair, dry hair, greasy-dry mixed hair. For each of these hair types there are now specially designed care products. Whereby the care of normal hair is very uncomplicated.

Fast greasy hair usually requires a hair wash after 1 to 2 days, because it then very quickly becomes stringy and unkempt. With dry hair, the hair often tends to split ends and is more difficult to manage after washing. Mixed hair from dry ends and greasy hairline is often found in very long hair.

However, as the range of products available today provides something for every hair type, even the care of demanding hair types is not a real problem. If you are unsure about which product is suitable for optimal care, then you should not be afraid to ask the person who should know best – your own hairdresser. A competent hairdresser can at least provide assistance and recommendations on what is best for your own hair.

Tip 2: Do not massage too much when washing your hair

For some women daily hair washing is a must. In principle, there is nothing to be said against it in most cases. However, the prerequisite is that a mild, conditioning shampoo is used. While dry hair requires a shampoo that gives the hair moisture, a conditioner shampoo can be useful for stressed hair. Oily hair requires products that have a slightly degreasing effect.

However, it should not be massaged as strongly during daily washing in order not to additionally stimulate the sebaceous glands. Otherwise they will produce additional fat and you will achieve exactly the opposite. If your hair is very greasy, you should only wash your hair every other day if possible. Sebum-absorbing clay shampoos, used once a week, help to regulate the scalp’s oil production. Between washes, a dry shampoo can absorb excessive oil and provide volume.

Tip 3: Shiny and healthy hair

Calcareous water makes our hair sometimes appear dull and lackluster. There are special anti-limescale shampoos for this purpose, which bind the limescale in the water with citrus extracts and thus ensure a healthy shine. All the styling products we use every day leave residues to remove them, intensive cleansing helps, as well as shampoos with thermal water and ginger extract and special peeling products can help here.

Tip 4: Wellness not only for skin but also for hair

Stress in everyday life and an unhealthy diet are always reflected in our body in a certain way. So if you have a lot to accomplish in everyday life, you should also remember to treat your body and your hair to something good every now and then. A simple recipe for a very effective hair treatment that can be mixed at home:

Hair conditioner for at home

  • 1 teaspoon honey
  • 1 egg
  • 2 tablespoons of olive oil

Mix these ingredients together well and massage into the tips of the hair. Leave everything to work for a quarter of an hour and then wrap a towel around your head. This will intensify the effect even more. When rinsing, however, make sure not to use too warm water, otherwise the egg will begin to curdle in the hair and it will be difficult to wash it out.

The effect of honey on stressed hair has a particularly positive effect and supports the body’s own regeneration process. Frequent washing, coloring and blow-drying leaves traces.

Tip 5: Special hair requires special care

For normal hair, it is sufficient to apply a hair treatment about every fortnight. However, if it is more damaged, as can happen, for example, with salt water after a summer holiday by the sea, then you should have a weekly hair treatment. This gives the weakened hair moisture back and makes it easier to comb.

Also the use of moisturizing and conditioning sprays, which do not need to be rinsed out after use, are a real alternative to hair treatments. Too much toweling can damage the hair, so especially after shampooing, make sure that you do not rub the hair too hard with a towel – squeezing it out is much gentler and more recommendable.

Pulling and shagging should not be part of hair care. Especially gentle are therefore tipped combs with rounded tips. If the hair is a little longer, you should first start combing at the tips and only then work the roots.

Tip 6: Gently dry hair

Hot blow drying damages the hair structure. Many modern hairdryers have multi-stage temperature controls that allow you to determine how hot or cold you want to blow-dry your hair. For more volume, there is a simple technique: simply blow-dry the ends overhead, which gives them much more stability. Then use the brush to pull the hair from the roots to the ends. This will smooth the cuticle layer of the hair and at the same time achieve a shiny effect.

Straightening irons and curling irons reach temperatures of up to 220 degrees, which is a strain on the hair structure. If you don’t want to do without your straightening iron, you should straighten your hair when dry and use products for heat protection. Especially recommended are also straightening irons with ceramic coating.

Tip 7: Perfect styling

Only the right styling makes the hairstyle perfect. This includes the individual shaping of the hair as well as the subsequent finishing, so that the hairstyle does not only last for a few hours. With foam the hairstyle becomes a real dream. Foam gives the hairstyle a firm volume and protects against damp air and other external environmental influences. Depending on the type of scalp, you can choose from varieties with alcohol, as well as alcohol-free varieties. Mousse can be worked into wet or dry hair. Spread the mousse first in your hands and only then in your hair.

Strengthener in liquid form

Strengthener in liquid form is lighter than mousse and also brings more shine to the hair. Therefore this product is especially recommended for stressed and dry hair. Hair wax

Wax gives stability and shine. Depending on the type of hairstyle, hard or soft waxes can be used for styling. Hard waxes are especially suitable for strands of accentuated hair, especially for normal to thick hair. Fine hair, on the other hand, tends to be weighted down by waxes and then usually makes it look limp.


Hairsprays fix a previously modeled hairstyle, offer protection against moisture as well as loose hold and are suitable for all hair qualities. Unlike wax or gel, spray can be easily combed out.
Still quite new among the styling products is the volume powder. Flat hair gets more volume quickly and easily. Simply sprinkle a small amount of powder on the roots and work it in with your fingers. The micro-particles contained in the powder provide more stability and even absorb excess oil.

Tip 8: Protection from too much sun

Sun, sea water, sand or chlorinated pool water, this is pure stress for our hair. Especially in summer our hair needs a protective headgear. If we do not protect it sufficiently, it quickly loses its shine and looks brittle and shaggy. Everyone knows the phenomenon where our hair becomes lighter in summer. A sun hat, a cloth or a peaked cap protects us from the so-called creeping oxidation. Special clothing with UV protection provides extra protection for hair and skin.

Sun protection sprays before sunbathing and sun care shampoos afterwards are also helpful, as is the thorough washing out of chlorine and salt residues with fresh water. Especially short hair can also be rubbed with sun cream or sun oils. The only disadvantage – the whole thing is sometimes a little sticky and oily. Especially the damaged hair ends should be treated regularly with intensive treatments. For more resistance and less danger of split ends, at least the tips should be cut regularly.

Tip 9: Hair care in autumn and winter

In the colder season we often stay in closed and heated rooms. This in turn is hard work for our scalp and our hair. During this time it is often quickly dry and statically charged. It is therefore important to use effective care products and to use natural materials for combing rather than combs and brushes made of plastic. These only additionally charge the hair and promote roughening of the hair surface.
